Sabah Al-Hadeedi

Born in 1946, Dr. Sabah Al-Hadeedi begins this interview by covering the history of medical services in Kuwait, and the coming to Kuwait of his father, Dr. Yahya Al-Hadeedi, as the first Arab physician to work in Kuwait. Al-Hadeedi also details the beginning of governmental medical services in Kuwait in 1940, his father’s work at the Syrian Clinic at Maarafie house, and the journey of building the Amiri Hospital from 1940 to its opening in 1949. After that, Al-Hadeedi speaks about his childhood and going to Al-Sharqia School and Shuwaikh High School. He then speaks about studying medicine in Egypt, and then returning to Kuwait to work at the Amiri Hospital, in addition to specializing in Surgery in Ireland in the eighties. Al-Hadeedi then moves on to the topic of the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait, and mentions the details of the continued work at the Amiri Hospital during the occupation, in addition to the liberation. Al-Hadeedi then speaks about specializing in hepatobiliary surgery in Hong Kong, and concludes the interview by speaking about his career after the liberation, retirement, and working at the private sector.
